Dear Friends, Colleagues and Scouters,
In the year 2000, I began a very special journey in Scouting. It was a journey that had no specific destination, but I knew it would take me down many paths and trails. When I set out I had one goal in mind and that was to help make a difference in the lives of young Canadians and the volunteers who served in Scouts Canada.
This journey started in Shining Waters Council as a Field Executive and in a couple of years I moved onto Central Escarpment Council as their Executive Director, only one year later I was ask to take on the role of CED for Central Ontario serving GTC, SWC and CEC, all councils that I had the opportunity to serve previously.
These past ten years I have had the privilege of travelling all over central Ontario and Canada meeting and working with youth, volunteers and employees from all walks of life and no matter where the youth were from there was a certain glow on their faces as they sent their Kub Kar down the track, as they paddled their canoe across the lake or as they received an award or became invested as a Cub. Scouting was making a difference in their lives. I have always been amazed at the tremendous dedication and passion of volunteers in Scouting and I often wondered why Scouters would give up evenings, weekends and weeks at a time for this great movement. I soon realized they too wanted to make a difference in the lives of young people. The employees of Scouting are also extremely dedicated, passionate and committed to making a difference. I want to thank our volunteers and staff for their part in my journey.
Now it is time for my scouting journey to take a new route, I have shared my experience, I have done my best, I have prepared for the future, I have taken on many challenges and I believe I have served Scouting well. I now must move on. Effective February 12th, 2010 I will conclude my employment with Scouts Canada to pursue a new adventure in my life.
It is a funny thing when you reach a decision like this, when I started this journey in Scouting I wanted to make a difference in the lives of young people, the volunteers and staff who served in Scouting and I believe in my heart that I did. What I did not expect was the difference you have all made in my life.
Thank you and Good Scouting
